Q. How long will the bankruptcy show on my credit report?
A. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy will show on your credit report for ten years from the date that your case was filed. A Chapter 13 bankruptcy will show on your credit report for seven years from the date that your case was filed.
Q. There is a debt showing up on my credit report that should have been discharged in the bankruptcy. What should I do?
A. You can contact the creditor in question or go through the credit reporting agency’s dispute resolution process.
Q. Can I ever file for bankruptcy again?
A. If you filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy previously, you must wait eight years from the filing date of the bankruptcy in order to file another Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If eight years have not elapsed, a Chapter 13 bankruptcy may be a good option for you. If you previously filed a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, there is no restriction as to when you can file another bankruptcy.
Q. I need a copy of my bankruptcy petition. How long do you keep my paperwork?
