It seems like we are always busy at Steidl and Steinberg: winter, summer, and especially spring and fall. But we are a bit less busy in the summer, and I can only speculate why this is so.
Is it because your bills have gone away? I seriously doubt that, but if you have a miracle solution, let us know and we will bottle it.
Is it because the collectors call less? I doubt that also, but when the weather is nice, who wants to spend so much time on the phone? For our clients who primarily rely on a landline, when you are not home, there is no call to answer.
That begs a remaking of a famous question. If a collector calls, and there is no one home to answer it, did the collector really call at all?
Is it because our clients are much more active doing things in the Summer that they don’t have time or just don’t want to take bad news calls? Now we are getting somewhere.
Summer seems so short in Western Pennsylvania that we really want, and need, to take care of the things we want to do outside. Sometimes, we just need to have some fun.
While no one wants these collection calls anytime, we especially dislike ruining a sunny day by talking to someone who just wants money from us. But the bill collectors don’t take vacations. They will call, no matter how beautiful the weather may be.
Debt knows no holidays.
Summer also has a way of luring people into a false sense of security. There is a bit less Court activity during the summer months, particularly August, as Court staff and judges take vacations and fewer hearings are scheduled. There are less scheduled District Justice collection cases as well.
The letter you are dreading telling you that you are being sued hasn’t arrived, so you start thinking maybe you have slipped through the cracks. You thought about calling us but, maybe the situation isn’t so bad after all, and you hope for the best. Or you receive a notice that you are being sued and you ignore it because it’s summer, who wants to deal with reality when it’s so nice outside?
At Steidl and Steinberg, we expect fewer calls in the summer. But we know your bills are still coming, and the collectors won’t give up and the Court calendar will return to normal. When reality strikes, whether it is in the heat of summer or the cold of winter, we are here. The faster you deal with debt problems and work toward a solution, the closer you will come to seeing sunny days during every season of the year.
