What to Expect (And Not Expect) At Your Initial Consultation

What to Expect (And Not Expect) At Your Initial Consultation

Posted on September 13, 2019 by Kenny Steinberg

“No one is so brave that he is not disturbed by something unexpected.”

This is a famous quote by Julius Caesar, and we here at Steidl and Steinberg wholeheartedly agree with the famous Roman emperor.

Many of our clients have never had a reason to see an attorney. For many, going to see an attorney can, in fact, be somewhat disconcerting, especially when the issue is related to debt problems.

It is actually easier to begin the discussion with what not to expect at your initial consultation. I am consistently told by my clients that they went to see an attorney for a problem and they walked out feeling worse than when they went in.

This isn’t because they got bad news from the attorney about their legal situation. It is because they were treated so poorly at the office! This does not happen at Steidl and Steinberg. We pride ourselves on treating all of our clients with the dignity and respect that they rightly deserve at all times. Our clients come to us with debt problems. They want to feel better after meeting with us, not worse.

How to Know if Bankruptcy is Your Best Option

Bankruptcy is widely misunderstood. While most know that bankruptcy is a type of financial last resort, very few people have a strong grasp on the specifics.

In fact, for most people struggling with debt, bankruptcy may be their chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew. Within just a year, most people who file are in a much better situation than before.

So how can you know for sure if bankruptcy is the best choice for you?

The first step is to give us a call. We’ve helped thousands of clients just like you find debt relief and understand all of their options. And once we have a better grasp of your situation, we’ll let you know if coming in for a consultation is your best option.

We Are Attorneys, Not Salesmen

When you come in for your initial consultation, we won’t try to sell you on filing for bankruptcy.

The attorneys at my office will go through your entire situation and make a recommendation on how to handle your debt issues. Often times the best solution is bankruptcy. Many times, it is not. If bankruptcy isn’t the best option, we will tell you that upfront and make a recommendation as to what we think the best option is, plain and simple.

Finally, don’t expect to pay any money at your initial consultation. We offer a free consultation to all of our clients.

Come Prepared to Answer Some Questions

Moving on to what you can expect at the initial consultation, you can expect a lot of questions from the attorney about your situation.

All of the attorneys at Steidl and Steinberg handle the initial consultation a little bit differently, but we all have to know the whole situation before we can begin to make recommendations.

Next, you can expect a little bit of humor. If you have seen our commercials, you know that we here at Steidl and Steinberg like to laugh. If you haven’t seen our commercials, check them out on our resources page.

We don’t use humor to make light of anyone’s situation. We take the situations that our clients are in, and the legal work that we do to remedy the problems, very seriously.

Most of our clients have been through some very trying situations, the meetings at our office don’t need to compound the feelings of frustration and anxiety. A little humor and laughter can go a long way to that end.

Expect to Leave More Informed Than When You Arrived

Despite feelings of relief in knowing your options, you may be a bit overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information that you get at the initial consultation.

If we think bankruptcy is your best option, you will be informed about what type of bankruptcy is appropriate for your particular situation, what the process will look like from start to finish, a fee will be quoted, and you will be given instructions on what to do next.

If we feel that bankruptcy isn’t your best bet, we will try to give you some guidance about what we believe is your best option.

Take Your First Step Toward Financial Freedom

Again, we at Steidl and Steinberg, like Mr. Caesar, don’t particularly like the unexpected. At the initial consultation, we try to give you as much information as we can about your options and the process going forward so that you do know what to expect going forward. If you have additional questions after the initial consultation, all you have to do is call or email the attorney that you met with and they will be happy to answer them for you.
